Tiffany Chin

Story

Tiffany Chin was born in Oakland, California and grew up in San Diego, rising through the figure skating ranks to win the 1981 World Junior Championships before moving into senior competition.

In 1985, Chin won the U.S. national championship, becoming the first Asian American — and the first skater of non-European descent — to win a U.S. figure skating title, a genuinely barrier-breaking achievement in the sport. She backed it up with bronze medals at the 1985 and 1986 World Championships and represented the U.S. at the 1984 Winter Olympics.

After retiring from competition, Chin transitioned into coaching, becoming a technical specialist and mentoring future Olympians. She was inducted into the United States Figure Skating Hall of Fame in January 2022, cementing her legacy as a trailblazer for Asian American athletes in the sport.
